I had to update my wordpress installation and database so I took the opportunity to also update the blog appearance theme. I got a bit bored of the black one which had served me well for years and I found the Rustic theme online. I tweaked it to use picture of my brownie camera instead of the original trees, darkened the background a bit and updated some of the php so the archives would display full posts with images. Hopefully I havent broken anything but if I have please let me know.
Beau Brownie
I went shopping for some last additions to Laurens birthday presents and stopped in the antique shops in Powerscourt Shopping Center. I got distracted by a collection of cameras and picked up a present for myself as well, a Beau Brownie from around 1930. It may not be in perfect shape but it still works and came with a bag and original instructions so I’m pretty happy with it. It takes 120mm film which I have a few rolls of so I’ll have to test it out and I’m half tempted to bring it to my wedding and see what cool photos I can get.
Wallys
Last Saturday was the Street Performance World Championships in Merrion Square. As part of the weekend the organizers arranged to hold an world record attempt to get the most people dresses as Wally from Wheres Wally. It worked and they got the record. Before the attempt on Saturday I was watching one of the performers, The Might Gareth, and he spotted my camera so pointed me out to the crowd as part of his act. This made a young girl dressed as a Wally turn around and look straight at my camera, making the shot.
Memory of summer past
Today is a miserably wet and cold day, in fact it’s so bad I hear the Street Performers Championships in Cork were cancelled. They are on again next week in Dublin so I hope the weather improves. To make up for the dreary grey day I thought I’d post a picture from last weekend when it was sunny and warm in St Stephens Green.
Summer Buskers
Saturday was a the first day of the June Bank Holiday in Dublin and it started off as a lovely warm sunny day. The city was packed with people walking around enjoying the sun and the long weekend. A band had set up and was busking just opposite St Stephens Green, they were pretty good and had a fair crowd gathered around them. The Green itself had an orchestra playing in the band stand and a group putting on a play in the Yeats memorial. I could easily have spent the day just taking photos but I had a list of wedding chores to do so I just managed to snap a few around the day.
