Merry Christmas everyone I hope Santa was nice to you all.
Christmas Tree
It’s been a while since I posted. Busy few weeks getting stuff done in work and getting ready for Christmas. Still I thought I should post something so here’s a picture from last weekend when we were putting up our Christmas tree. It may be a little blurry but I like it because of the colors, I’m easily pleased sometimes.
We went away to Co. Clare for the weekend and stayed in a hotel which falls into the “modern but trying to appear old” bracket. In one of the alcoves of the bar was a bookshelf stacked with old hardback books no one ever bothers to read. In the bottom corner of the bookshelf was a stack of even older looking, worn and tatty books. These looked far more interesting so I snapped a photo of them. I didnt try to read any of them because the pile looked a little too precarious to be messed with. For all I know they could have been made in China last year, treated to look old and sold in a Hotel Bits and Bobs market but I liked them.
Occupy
The Occupy Wall Street protests have spread world wide and Ireland is no exception. We have Occupy Dame Street where a group of protestors have set up tents on the square in front of the Irish Central Bank. Last Saturday they staged a protest march through the city so I went along to take some photos. Protest photos are more fun because I can take photos of people on the street without them getting too annoyed. After all they are out there putting themselves on show so they usually welcome the camera. More photos after the break
Autumn 2011
Last year I posted about The Last Autumn in St Stephens Green. At the time plans were in place for Metro North and a Dart Interconnector that would see a train station being built under St Stephens Green. In order to make space for the construction a large number of trees in the Green would have to be cut down.
Fortunately the recession kicked in and the government realized that at a time when they need to close hospitals around the country building a train line from Dublin city center out to the airport would be a good way to loose every Dail seat they hold outside of Dublin. While the works have not been cancelled they have been put on hold for the moment but that will hopefully see a permanent reprieve for the Green.
