Carla & Brian Wedding

CarlaBrianWedding-4A couple of weekends ago Lauren and I were entrusted with taking the wedding photos for two of our good friends here in Newfoundland. Carla and Brian had asked us to take their photos and despite some inner fears we agreed. It was a great day, not only for the happy couple but for us too. We had shot a wedding back in Ireland some years ago so it wasn’t completely new (Lauren had shot some prior to that as well, she studied photography and journalism in college) but there was still lots to learn and new techniques to master. We did ok I think, at least the couple seem to like the photos we have sent them so far, there are many many more are to be processed but I’ll get through them soon.

More after the break

Kelleys Island

KelleysIslandSepia-1Here is a photo of what I believe is Kelleys Island from Topsail beach in Newfoundland. I’m not sure about the name of the island, it’s a small little island beside Bell Island and Google maps tells me it’s Kelleys Island but I’ve also seen it listed as Kelly’s Island so forgive me if I’m wrong.

Finn the Destroyer

FinnHere is a photo of our puppy Finn, or The Destroyer as I am starting to call the 7 month ball of energy. He’s one of the reasons I’ve been so quiet here as he managed to knock a pint glass full of ice and cider over my MacBook Pro on a hot sunny day last weekend. The laptop spent 4 days in a bag of rice and it booted ok but I’ve been backing up everything on it just to be safe since it could still fail if the connections start to corrode. He also likes to chew door frames, dig hardwood floors, rip couches, break dishes and steal shoes. Still in the rare moments when he is calm he is a nice dog though he rarely allows photographs since camera lenses are high on his wish list of chew toys.

Cape Spear Fog

CapeSpearFog-1I finally got out for a few hours to take photos at the weekend. We had a beautiful sunny weekend in St John’s so yesterday we decided to take a sunny Sunday drive out to Cape Spear to take some photos. Cape Spear is the most easterly point of North America and just about 15km from St John’s. It might as well have been 1500 km as we drove from sun into a fog bank perched over Cape Spear. When we parked in the the car park we couldn’t even see the lighthouse itself. It’s amazing how two extremes of weather can be so close to each other. Still I got out and made the best of it to get some photos of the lighthouse in the fog.

Fort Amherst

FortAmherst-1Here is a photo of the lighthouse at Fort Amherst. The fort was originally built in 1770 but this lighthouse was built in 1951. I couldnt get down into the fortifications themselves  since the gates were locked but I’m told they are opened during the summer so hopefully I can get out there again.
