Following on from the previous post I have a copy of the cathedral photograph in simple black and white. At the moment I prefer the sepia one but that could just be the fact that I am used to them. I also think the photos look better in Lightroom before I export them and compared to the prints the photos on the blog seem a little bland. I think I need to learn more about exporting photographs for use on the web. Also I think I need to get a device to calibrate my screen.
Things to photograph
I’ve started to look at the photos I used for Peoples Photo 2009 and try to fill some gaps. It seemed the photos that sold were photos of Dublin landmarks and I was asked if I had photos of things like the Ha’penny Bridge. I didnt really so I’ve decided that I need to do a couple of things over the next year.
First I need to fill the gaps. Take photos of things that I don’t already have photos of. That’s not to say that I don’t have any photos of places like St Patricks Cathedral or the Ha’Penny Bridge but that I’ve only got basic photos that are not up to scratch. Two weeks ago I got a photo of the bridge, this week I wandered around St Patricks Cathedral to try and figure out what I wanted to take photos of. I did snap some and I intend on going back with a tripod to try and get some nice photos of the cathedral. I was lucky to get there last week when there were still flowers in the garden. I hope when I go there next time there will be new ones planted though with winter coming. I may have to wait until next spring for some nice flowers to put in the foreground.
Secondly I need to decide if I want to continue with the sepia effect. It stood out but I don’t want to just have sepia photos and nothing else. Some nice black and white and long exposure photos might be in order.
Ha’Penny Bridge Sunset
I was bored in town earlier this week while waiting for a meeting and stopped on the quays to take some photographs of the Ha’Penny bridge with the sun setting behind it. I liked this one best and applied the sepia old photo preset I had used for the peoples photography prints this year. I need to find a new style for next year, but I’ll try to keep things pretty consistent on this blog and wont through up every photograph and style that I play with.

Successful Weekend
I had a wonderful weekend at Peoples Photography 2009. The reaction to my photographs was very positive and I even managed to sell 10 prints, more than I hoped and many more than I expected for the exhibition. There are good years and bad years at Peoples Photography but for me this was a very good year. Thanks to all those who admired my prints, commented on them, gave advice and especially a big thank you to those who bought them. Seeing people stop and examine the photographs made the work and effort in the previous months well worth it.
The work for next year will start sooner rather than later as I hope to try something different again and will need new photographs in that style. I’ll still post updates and new images here some in the same style as Peoples Photography 2009 and some in new styles as I try to settle on the one I want for 2010.
Peoples Photography 2009
I’m now pretty much ready for Peoples Photography 2009 tomorrow and Sunday. I need to put some photographs in mounts and bags, then pack the whole lot into a box for transport tomorrow. Now the most important thing is the weather and the forecast is a little mixed. Hopefully it will stay dry and we will have a good turn out.
It has been an interesting project just getting ready, selecting photographs, deciding how I wanted to print them and what look I was going for. I decided to go for a monochrome with lots of sepia look. I’m sure many people will hate it but I’m hoping some people will love it. Anyway they are my photos and at the end of the day I did the project for myself.
If you are around St Stephens Green over the weekend call over to slot 70 and say hello.
