Picket Fence

I’m going through a bit of a photo slump at the moment where I havent had the opportunity to take out my camera and go take some photos in about a month. Partly it’s due to me starting a new job and partly it’s just having stuff on every weekend for the last while. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon. In the mean time here’s another photo from my archives that I’ve played with one evening lately. A white picket fence again from St Pierre. This one seemed to work better in black and white.

Saint Pierre Lighthouse

Here’s another one from the trip to Saint Pierre and Miquelon. It’s been a while since I was able to spend time on photos so it was nice to get back to this one. It’s of the lighthouse in the main port. There is some repair work going on so that explains the scaffolding. A No Access construction sign stopped me from going any closer since I didn’t want to risk the annoyance of the local police force but this did still give a nice view.

Saint Pierre and Miquelon

Because I had to leave Canada and come back in again to change my visa the easiest thing for us to do was to head to the French colony of Saint Pierre and Miquelon just off the coast of Newfoundland. We had to go for two nights since the ferry only runs every two days this time of year, still that gave me the opportunity to take some photos. These buildings are across the harbour from the main town and this photo is actually one of the last I took on the trip. I was on the ferry and behind some plastic windows so I’m quite pleased that it turned out to be a usable shot.

St John’s Basilica

I’ve been quiet here the last couple of weeks and I really shouldnt have been seeing how I had a photo ready to go and plenty of time to post them. I guess I just got distracted with other stuff and forgot to post.

The good news is it appears I’ve got a new job starting soon so that will fill my days with real work but also hopefully allow me to upgrade some of my camera gear soon or maybe pick up an antique camera or two I’ve had my eye on in a local shop.

In the meantime here is a photo I took a couple of weeks ago in the Basilica in St John’s. It’s a beautiful building and stands out from the rest of the city in that it’s old stone work. I’m not sure if it’s the oldest building in St John’s but it has to be up there as one of the oldest. Most of the rest of downtown is wooden structures and very distinctively different from back home but the Basilica could easily be in any town or city back in Ireland which I kinda like in a way. I love the rest of the city but it’s nice to have someplace “familiar” to look at.

We are off on another road trip at the weekend, off to France! Well St Pierre and Miquelon which is a small island off the coast of Newfoundland but which is still part of France. The last of their outposts after the fall of the colony of New France to the British.

Email Address Misused

It appears someone has taken one of the email addresses linked to this blog and pasted into the from/reply-to field of an auto emailer sending spam from Eircom.net. This is not me and has nothing to do with this blog.

I’m being flooded with message send failures so it’s becoming such a nuisance I’ll have to disable that email address until it gets sorted out.

My apologies if spam brought you here, please don’t blame me, I’m more annoyed and angry about it than you are.

St John’s Harbour

Here is another picture from the day down in the harbour watching the cruise ship. I should post something different but I like this one and it’s been a busy week here so I havent had a chance to work on other photos. We’re in a different house at the moment house sitting and then a few days after we moved in a tropical storm hit the island so there was some preparation to be done and clean up afterwards. Plus I’ve been trying to spend a few hours every day trying to learn some iOS development.
