We went out around the bay yesterday to see if we could find some more icebergs. We had almost turned around and headed back to try another area when we crested a hill and saw a bay with 5 or 6 icebergs in it. I took a few shots but this was my favourite. I can’t take all the credit for it. I was so focused on the icebergs it was Lauren who spotted the row boat and told me it would make a nice shot, which it did.
Newfoundland
Bauline. Boats, Iceberg and Sunset
I went iceberg hunting during the week and got a few ok shots but this one was my favourite of the day. I had stopped photographing, brought my DSLR gear home and gone to pick up my wife and baby. Lauren wanted to see some icebergs as well so we headed over to Bauline where I hadn’t been earlier. There was a small one berg in the harbour and all I had was my iPhone but I took a few shots anyway and as I said it ended up being my favourite of the day. It just goes to show, the best camera is the one you have with you.
Blizzard
Newfoundland got hit hard over the last couple of days by a blizzard. The whole of Canada has been hit by arctic air and temperatures. To add to our problems the power went out to the whole island, it was already on rolling blackouts before the storm.
Before digging out my own driveway I went for a walk to see what others in the area were up to and grabbed a few shots, though taking my 60D out in snow storm is not a good idea so I didn’t stay out long.
Harbour Hydrant
I let posting images to my blog slip a little but in fact I have been out a few times over the last month taking photos so I really have no excuse. Here is one from a trip down town a few weeks ago. There is a tiny part of the harbour that you can get to that is all run down and abandoned. I was there last year and decided that I’d have a look around there again. This time I noticed this old fire hydrant with Signal Hill in the background and some nice autumnal light hitting it so I crouched down to take some photos. I later learned that apparently that’s around the spot where the city sewage goes into the harbour so maybe I won’t be doing a return visit. Though there was no smell so maybe it’s just a local myth.
Colourful Lane
One more photos from the photowalk in St John’s. This one is of a graffiti filled lane way and I waited for people to walk down at the end of the lane. Looking back at the photos I took though I was crouched down leaning against a wall to get a good angle everyone was looking up the lane right at the camera, it’s as if they knew I was there already. I wonder if I was reflected in the car window or something.
