One evening during my vacation I took a hike along the trail around Signal Hill and The Battery in St Johns. The view is amazing and well worth the effort. The city can be seen through The Narrows with Cabot Tower sitting on top of the hill.
Newfoundland
Newfoundland 2010
I’m just back again from this years trip to Newfoundland in Canada. I didnt get to spend as much time taking photos as I usually do since we were busy trying to organise our wedding next year but I was lucky to get out with my camera for on the two best days of the trip. A weekend spent in Trinity itself was great fun and the town is a beautiful location in the early morning. In St Johns itself I went for a hike around Signal Hill and the view is amazing though the light was hazy and the time of day meant the sun was in most of the best shots, it’s another location that needs an early morning start so I’ll try to visit it again next year. I still have to go through the images but hopefully I’ll have a couple of nice ones to post here.
Newfie Boat
Another Newfoundland post. The communities of Newfoundland seem to have a great attachment to the sea and to boats. They are everywhere. Old boats, new boats, big and small. They also just tie them up beside the shore and no one takes them. Though who would steal a row boat I’m not sure. In Ireland kids would probably smash them for fun.

Cape Spear
The Cape Spear lighthouse in Newfoundland. Built in 1955 it replaced an older lighthouse built in 1835 which still stands nearby. The more interesting thing about Cape Spear is that it is the most easterly point of North America. That is of course assuming you don’t count Greenland like some people so, but since Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and has been part of Europe since the 18th century. Also nearby are old World War II bunkers and a gun battery intended to help protect the Atlantic convoy routes. A set of wooden and stone steps lead up to the lighthouse and made a nice leading line for this photograph.
