Molly Christmas

molly-1

I’ve gotten out on a few occasions over the last month to take photos but they have generally been family Christmas photo sessions for friends and I’m not going to post other peoples Christmas photographs here, at least not until they have had a chance to post them themselves to their social media and show them to family. Instead here is one of our baby Molly who is 11 months old so this will be her first Christmas. She’s brought a whole new festive spirit to the house though she doesn’t understand what is going on the look of wonder and joy on her face when we turn on the lights on the tree or put up new decorations gives me a whole new injection of Christmas spirit. Merry Christmas everyone!

Remembrance

Rememberance-1

I attended my first Remembrance Day ceremony in St John’s today. Here in Canada everyone wears a poppy in the days running up to November 11th and there is a tradition that after the ceremony people line up to pin their poppies on the wreaths that have just been laid. Seeing hundreds of people queue to lay their poppies was a more touching part of the day than all the speeches and ceremony.

Water Street Busker

waterstreetbusker

I took this photo during the 2014 World Wide Photo Walk last weekend in St John’s. This year I tried to focus on getting photos with people in them. Street photography with strangers in them is a bit outside my comfort zone. When out taking photos on the street I prefer taking photos of crowds or landscapes not individual strangers who might not like their photo being taken. That said I’ve never actually had anyone object to having their photo taken and the buskers around the city provided some great subjects, this guy was one of the best.

Aurora

Aurora-1

The Aurora was visible from St John’s last night. Unfortunately I was a little late to the party but I got some shots of the after glow others at the same spot I headed to git amazing shots earlier in the night, oh well, maybe next time. This photo was taken at Middle Cove lookout and shows a bit of the green glow with the Big Dipper and an airplane flying through the shot.

Cape Spear Lighthouse

CapeSpear-1

A photo of the old Cape Spear Lighthouse. This is the first time I’ve been to Cape Spear in good weather so it was nice to admire the view (once I went there and the fog was so thick you couldn’t see the top of the new lighthouse from the bottom).
