Quidi Vidi 2

QuidiVidiPano2-1Here is another photo from the trip down to Quidi Vidi. This one is another pano and even wider.

I did think twice about posting this since it’s so long and wont look good on a blog but we are in the middle of house hunting and while viewing a house I saw a panoramic that was 2 to 3 time longer than this one and hung on the wall  in a hallway. It made me think that this photo isnt too long at all and in fact if we did end up buying that house or one with a similar hallway I might replace the old pano, which I’m sure the current owners would take with them, with this one like this. Regardless of what house we buy I’m going print out some of my photos and hang them on the walls.

Quidi Vidi

QuidiVidiPano-1

We went out last Sunday after a fresh fall of snow to spend some time down in Quidi Vidi. Quidi Vidi is one of my favourite parts of St Johns yet I spend very little time down there. Some of the best photos from our wedding were taken down there in the Inn of Olde where the bridal party relaxed between the ceremony and the reception.

I’m back to trying out panoramics. Last weekend turned out a little better than the Torbay photos but I still need more practice. My new tripod is working out a treat though, for starters I can put the camera into portrait orientation which is better for large panoramics.

Torbay Long Winter

TorbayLongExpSnow-1In a change from the panoramic photos here is a black and white long exposure from last weekend. This spot is close to the house on the East Coast Trail and I’ve gone down there a few times to try and take some photos. I liked this one so I decided to upload it.

I did try a couple of panoramic shots but none of them came out the way I wanted. I need to practice some more and try different lenses.

St John’s Pano

StJohnsPano-1Here is another photo from the trip up Signal Hill. This time it’s a “proper” panoramic. Instead of cropping down a file I used my tripod and a wide angle lens to get a sweep across the view and then combined the 4 best shots into a panoramic in Photoshop Elements. I like the result and think I’ll try to do this more often, especially since my old 40D doesn’t have the pixels to crop down. I have another taken from the other side of the tower that I might post later.

On a side note we had a big blizzard last week followed by 3 or 4 days of thaw so despite the 50 cms that fell in one day we no longer have much snow. It’s gotten cold again so hopefully we’ll get some nice fresh snow and I’ll be able to get some more winter panoramics’.

St John’s Snow

StJohnsSnow-1We went up Signal Hill last weekend at the end of the Christmas holidays to take some photos of the city with snow on the ground. Initially I wanted to take photos of Cabot Tower with the star still lit up but the sunset over the city was nicer.

This is the start of real winter. it was -8 with a windchill of -18 according to the radio. That’s only the beginning, we are forecast to have the first winter storm of the year this week, up to 70cms of snow on Thursday. It should be interesting.
